Individuals who do not wish to work toward a higher degree may opt to complete course work and experiential requirements to qualify for the recommendation for state certification.聽 The certification-only option is a course of study designed to meet minimum certification requirements and is not a degree program.

Certification only is an option (not a program) and is currently offered in Broadfield Science, English, History, and Mathematics聽and may be requested by a prospective candidate who holds at least a bachelor鈥檚 degree from an accredited institution and prefers not to pursue a higher degree while seeking certification for grades 6-12 in one of the fields offered at 海角社区 University.

The applicant's transcript is reviewed by the advisor in the intended field of certification. A proposed program of study is designed to ensure depth in the content field, as well as meeting all requirements prescribed in the field of education, including an apprenticeship or internship.

The proposed course of study is reviewed by the department chair and, if approved, serves as the advisement sheet for that candidate. All other procedures and requirements of the College of Education and the University apply.

Candidates must apply for and be admitted to Teacher Education and pass the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) content exams in their聽chosen content field.聽Completion of this course of study does not lead to a degree in education.

If you are a returning BA or MA Educational Studies graduate from 海角社区 University, you may return within five years as a certification only student.聽 A prerequisite for admission as a certification-only student is successful completion of the appropriate GACE content tests.
